Sing to Me – Via Concert
May 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Pittsburgh School for Choral Arts (PSCA) Via Choir presents “Sing to Me” on Friday, May 19, 7-9 p.m. at Shadyside Presbyterian Church, 5121 Westminster Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Suggested donations accepted at the door.
The concert takes its title from the many different countries and cultural traditions represented in the program’s repertoire. In addition to Vivaldi’s ‘Laudamus Te,’ there are some of Christina Rossetti’s poems set to music, including “the Wind” and “Skylark and Nightingale.” Europe is represented further by two French songs, “Vois sur ton chemin” and “Compere Guilleri.”
Allan Naplan took a maxim from Jewish morality law and composed “Al Shlosha D’varim.” From American folk traditions come “Three Fiddle Tunes “(Sail Away, Cripple Creek and Old Joe Clark), as well as the Appalachian folk song, “Bowling Green.” From the same mountain region comes Andrea Ramsey’s “Sing to Me,” commissioned in honor of the Charlotte Children’s Choir 25th Anniversary. American poet James Heup’s text “When Children Sing” is set to music by Mary Goetze.
Other numbers include the African American spiritual “Go Down Moses,” and a South African folk song, “Siyahamba”. From Canada, the choristers add the Newfoundland folk song “I’se the B’y,” and “My Heart Soars.”
This performance will take place in the Chapel.
